East Anglia’s expanses of landscape present great options for those looking for the best picnic spots in Norfolk and Suffolk. Whether you’re a local or a tourist for the day, we’ve got some of our favourite locations that promise a little escape from the everyday speed of modern life. Let’s explore the best places to spread your blanket and enjoy a bite to eat – hopefully in good weather!
Picnic Spots in Norfolk – Caen Meadow
Let’s kick things off with a site just north of Norwich, in the heart of the Norfolk Broads. Caen Meadow in Wroxham is a hidden stretch of protected riverside land that locals cherish. Entering Wroxham from the Norwich end, you’ll need to turn left just after the petrol station and then downhill towards a sharp right-hand corner. Once you’ve progressed round this bend, you’ll need to find a suitable place to park on the street. Church Street is around 250m long, with most free space usually at the far end near the Church.
You’ll find this secluded spot halfway along Church Street and it’s perfect for a lazy afternoon picnic. The grassy area is ideal for dogs and children to run around, while the woodland area to the south offers a tranquil walk by the river. The meadow itself slopes down to the river’s edge which is suitably shallow to allow paddling and exploring, just be aware of rivercraft. This is a great choice, unknown to many.
Why you’ll love this picnic spot in norfolk:
- Free on-street parking along Church Street
- Excellent for waterbird watching and peaceful strolls
- Close proximity to Wroxham’s amenities (Did someone suggest hiring a picnic boat?)

Whitlingham Country Park offers a diverse range of picnic spots around its beautiful lake, in its dedicated picnic meadow and beyond.
